Hello Atelier 034

Melissa Averinos

Our guest, Melissa Averinos, is a painter, quilter, and artist who has made her mark on everything from books to award-winning quilts. I originally learned about Melissa when she released her first quilt fabric line. The colorful designs caught my eye, and since then, I feel like wherever you go in the quilting world, Melissa’s name is sure to pop up. But Melissa isn’t just a fabric designer, she is a bit of a Renaissance woman – one minute she’s writing a craft book, the next she is painting cat portraits.

We visited Melissa at her house in Cape Cod, a jewel box exploding with fabric and color. While we touched on many of Melissa’s artistic interests, what really intrigued me was how she accomplished her dream of making a living using her creativity. Some projects have worked, some haven’t. But she’s learned how to embrace her own eclectic interests and create a life for herself as a working artist.

Listen in as we talk with Melissa about how she learned to sew, how art got her through some critical times, and why she is all about weird cats forever.
